OBJECTIVES:

 The Pilates Studio Teacher Training Mat program is a 6 - 9 month, 180 hour program designed for health and fitness professionals and Pilates enthusiasts as an introduction to the Classical Pilates Method on the Mat. Participants will learn how to safely and effectively teach a Classical Mat class to low risk clients in a private or class setting.

If you are a Bridging student with a previous Pilates certification or a Pilates enthusiast that is looking to learn Pilates with no intention of teaching, then you will undertake a 100 hour program. (note that those that are taking the program for their own knowledge will receive a certificate of participation at the end of their training)

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

At the successful completion of the course, you will be able to:

  1. Teach a range of exercises from Pre-Pilates - Advanced level with the inclusion of small props.

  2. Have a clear understanding of the Classical Pilates approach, including philosophy, principles and  concepts.

  3. Competently modify or advance clients depending on their individual needs and limitations

  4. Recognise good vs poor technique and correct form accordingly

  5. Competently perform the Classical Pilates Mat work from Pre-Pilates to the Advanced level

  6. Assess and address different postural types and apply individual corrections or exercises for those individuals

  7. Work within occupational health and safety guidelines unique to teaching Pilates Mat.

  8. Understand basic anatomy related to working with low risk clients

  9. Have an in depth knowledge of the history of the Pilates method.

  10. Be knowledgeable in the efficacy of the Pilates Mat in a research context.

  11. Understand scope of practice as a Pilates professional

PRE-REQUISITES

You must be generally healthy and able to participate fully in the physical aspect of the training. You should consider being able to perform at an Intermediate Level of Pilates, or willing to put in the time outside of the training to reach this level of competency.

LEARNING MATERIALS

You will be given a hard copy Manual for your study as well as access to the online portal. The online portal contains a video library of all the exercises, teaching skill videos, Anatomy and History modules and other PDFs to support your training.

A free, fortnightly Mat class will also be available to you. You can complete these in the studio or via zoom. These classes will count towards your personal practice.

COMMITMENT

Full Certification

180 hours, broken into:

  • 55 hours of seminars (9 hours - Pre Pilates and Beginner, 9 hour Intermediate, 9 hours Advanced over 3 weekends) and online content: teaching skills, homework and anatomy.

  • 50 hours Self mastery (50% minimum with an accredited instructor)

  • 50 hours practice teaching (50% minimum with an approved studio)

  • 20 hours observation (50% minimum with an accredited instructor)

  • (Assessments: 3 hours)

Bridging/Enthusiast program

100 hours, broken into:

  • 55 hours of seminars (9 hours - Pre Pilates and Beginner, 9 hour Intermediate, 9 hours Advanced over 3 weekends) and Online content: teaching skills, homework and anatomy.

  • 20 hours Self mastery (50% minimum with an accredited instructor)

  • 20 hours practice teaching (50% minimum with an approved studio)

  • 5 hours observation (50% minimum with an accredited instructor)

*We understand that sometimes life happens, so note that 80% of the requisite hours (self mastery, observation and practice teaching) must be finished prior to the Assessments, the remaining 20% can be completed within 9 months of the program to gain certification.

ASSESSMENT DETAILS

In order to successfully complete the course, you will have various assessments to test your teaching skills and knowledge of the Classical Pilates system.

Assessment 1

  1. Assessment 1a - Teach a 55 minute Advanced Mat class to a minimum of 4 low risk clients with hands on cueing technique clearly applied. Passing grade 75%

  2. Assessment 1b - Create a 6 week program for a Mat class in written form. Passing grade 75%


Assessment 2

  1. Assessment: Test on Concepts, principles and philosophy, WHS guidelines and  history Multiple choice and short paragraph answers (45 minutes) Open Book. Passing grade 75%

  2. Case studies for 3 clients. Passing grade 75%

    1. Postural Type: Hyperextension

    2. Modify - Shoulder injury

    3. Advance - Athlete

  3. Write a 250 word essay on evidence of Pilates Mat in research. Open Book. Passing grade 75%

Assessment 3

  1. Performance of the Classical Mat to an Advanced level. Passing grade 75%

Assessment 4

  1. Assessment 4 - Anatomy test consisting of Multiple choice and short paragraph answers. Open book. 60 minutes. Passing grade 75%

Assessment 5

  1. Sited and signed copy of Logged hours

Resitting Assessments if unsuccessful

If you are unable to competently pass any of the assessments above, your teacher trainer will liaise with you to create an action plan for redoing any unsuccessful assessments. There will be a charge for retests at $90 per hour.
